30th Naatya Kala Conference, Sri Krishna Gana Sabha

Sri Krishna Gana Sabha's Naatya Kala Conference(NKC) is a very important event during the Chennai Art festival season in December.
30th annual NKC was held between 26th and 31st (six days). Nrityachoodaamani Smt. Shanta Dhananjayan will be the convener for the 30th & 31st NKC.(for two years).

This year's conference focussed on the "Abhyaasa-Sampradaaya (evolutionary developments in the last century ) culminating in today's repertoire and presentation of the five major system of traditional Naatya namely Bharatanaatyam, Kathakali, Kuchipudi-naatya, Odissi-naatya and Kathak-naatya. A living legendary Achaarya led each deliberation.

BHARATAKALANJALI jointly with RAJESH FINE ARTS presented a unique all men Bharatanaatyam performance: NARTHAKA -NARTHANAM in memory of one of the best Bharatanaatyam Narthakas who lost his life nine years ago. His teachers, mentors and colleagues joined in to pay a befitting NAATYA tribute to a 'Star' who shines in the heavens forever.
From 10.30 to 12 noon at Pethachi Auditorium, Luz Church Road, Mylapore.

RAJESH BALAKRISHNAN (son of Mridanga Vidwan Adyar Balu) was a brilliant Bharatanaatyam dancer, who made a tremendous impact in a short span of his life. A totally committed dancer, a promise of the next generation carrying forward the legacy of his mentors the Dhananjayans, died in a tragic accident in Kaithapram village, in Kerala nine years ago.

The programme on 14th consisted of repertoire composed by Rajesh and some of his favorite items, prepared by staff and students of Bharatakalanjali.

KALAABHAASKARA (Reunion Island) and Chennai BHARATAKALANJALI jointly produced and presented a very unique NAATYA (Dance drama) PARINAAMAM (on Human evolution & environmental protection).
The Cultural Ministry of the Mauritius Government presented a show in St.Louis on 1st November 2010, on the group's way back home.

Bharatakalanjali presented NRITYA TARANGINI in a small village near Mangalore called Belthangadi with a group of 17 artistes from Bharatakalanjali. This was for the ASHA SALIAN PRATHISHTANA the tenth anniversary memorial day of Smt. Asha Salian, a renowned philanthropist and art lover in Karnataka. On this special occasion, The Dhananjayans were honoured with DECENNIAL AWARD (a Plaque of honour), Ponnadai in front of a large gathering of village people and prominent personalities of the area.

THE DHANANJAYANS WERE HONOURED WITH THE 'PARAM AACHARYA' AWARD INSTITUTED BY CHENNAI BASED 'CALL EASY' CONCERN, a service oriented information center.
"GURU - The key to success" is an annual event commemorating the TEACHERS' DAY on 5th September.
The grand-mega event was held at Madras Music Academy Hall on 5th September at 6.00 p.m - a public event where a galaxy of celebrities from different walks of life participated.

The curriculum included practical, theoretical, aspects of Naatya and music, Yoga, Gita Patanam, Bhajans and interaction with great personalities in different walks of life. The camp gave students of all age groups a comprehensive idea on Bharateeya Kala and Samskaara (Indian Art, culture and spirituality) .

Sri Sumukhi Rajasekharan Memorial Foundation commemorated the 50th year Bharatanaatyam Arangetram of the late legend Krishanveni Lakshman & the living legend Shanta Dhananjayan at an exclusive �Visesha Arangam� of the 47th Kala Poshakam.



Remembering and paying humble tributes to KRISHNAVENI LAKSHMAN on the historic day. An exclusive Naatya Nivedanam was offered by "Padmabushan" Shanta Dhananjayan and lineage of Krishnaveni Lakshman - Gayatri & Balagurunathan (daughter & disciple), at Sri Rathnagirishwarar temple, Besant Nagar, on Wednesday, 13th January, 2010, at 6.30 p.m.

Krishnaveni Lakshman and Shanta Dhananjayan did their Arangetram together at Kalakshetra, on 13th January, 1960, in the presence of the great musicologist Prof. Sambamurthy & great Legend Rukminidevi Arundale. On the fortieth anniversary day both of them performed together in front of thousands of their admirers and connoisseurs at Varasiddhi Vinayakar Koil, Besant Nagar.
